Kumihimo is a traditional Japenese braiding technique. I have used kumihimo braiding to construct this satin cord necklace that incorporates a 45mm (1 3/4 inch) chalk turquoise gemstone donut as its centerpiece. The tuquoise donut is delicately veined with brown lines.
I have used both an aqua and a baby blue colored satin cord and braided it in a barber pole pattern and knoted it. I hand coiled raw copper wire into end caps which I have glue in place as well as bent the ends of the coil into the satin to further secure it. I have attached a large copper plated lobster claw clasp.
The necklace is 22 inches (56cm) in length.
