Sue Runyon Designs Newsletter Sep/Oct 2009
It has finally cooled down and become vaguely autumn-like in Nevada. It's a welcome change.
My family had a dream vacation to Peru, including Machu Picchu, since the last time I sent out a newsletter. If you enjoy a little armchair travel, visit my blog for commentary and photos of our trip.

I HAVE A WINNER!
Congratulations to Greg F. of Virginia who was the winner of a $20 gift certificate in September. Remember, if you subscribe to this newsletter, you will automatically be entered for all drawings. I will have one more drawing before the end of the year.
JEWELRY BUYING TREND:
You'll probably have noticed this already, but long, loopy chain necklaces and larger, more inventive styles of earrings are the trend for fall.
Since returning from Peru, I've designed many new styles of earrings. Some are already up on my website and Etsy.com store, but the majority haven't even been photographed yet. I've spent some time perfecting a new design for a teardrop shaped hoop style that I make myself from coiled wire. I'm very pleased with the results.
JEWELRY BUYING TIP:
Copper is a color that looks nice with every skin tone (it has both warm and cool tones in it) and has a casual look with the added benefit of being a very affordable metal. This week the price of gold has hit an all-time high and silver isn't far behind. When this happened last year, jewelry supply manufacturers began producing more items in copper and brass. There are now many more choices in gauges of wire, and other findings available in these metals for designers to use. Since these metals are affordable and versatile, I predict you'll soon be finding designs that are "looser" and more playful. I know this is already happening in my work.
I am designing a new line of fun, affordable copper jewelry. It is casual and great to wear with denim and khakis. But I have to admit that I'd also wear some of my new bright copper designs with with a black dress during the holidays or to spice up any of the fall colors in my wardrobe.
And, yes, if you wear a piece for a long time it will begin to oxidize and turn your skin (harmlessly) green. It washes off. Copper acquires a patina over time.
All of my new designs will debut here--

And finally, I just have to show off these clever new prayer box pendants. I now have cylindrical and cube shapes in addition to the sphere shaped one I had before. $8.50 & $9.00

These are perfect stocking stuffers and can also be used as ornaments. My eight year old thinks they are the coolest things ever.
Enjoy your autumn, Sue
