Sue Runyon Designs Newsletter Nov/Dec 2008

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I spent much of the holiday weekend re-taking jewelry photos for my website. Thanks to my brother-in-law, Gary, for giving me a photography tutorial. I got some great tips from him and now my photos are somewhat sharper. The next step will be to get a better camera. I could really see the difference when he took some with his camera. You can view the new photos on my earring page:

Photos are time consuming so I have put some items on SALE in hopes that I will not have to re-do those photos. If you have had your eye on something, now is the time to check and see if it is discounted.

My photos and backdrops are all changing in order to help me re-design my website in January. I will have been in business a year and it's time for a new look. The whole site will be lighter and brighter and easier to read. The home page will be completely re-designed and will include a new feature called "Today's Special" or something similar.

My CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS are selling quite well and more than half of my inventory is now gone. I will not be restocking supplies to make more this year so act fast if you want one :-)

Inventory on several items is low due to recent sales, but remember that I can re-make about 75% of the designs I have. Don't be afraid to ask.

The chains I prefer for the ever-popular "donut bail and chains" for the interchangeable gemstone donut necklaces are currently out of stock. I just got an e-mail from my supplier that they have now re-stocked them and I will be placing an order. Check back on those soon.

Gift wrap and cards are still complimentary!

Gift certificates are available.

JEWELRY TRENDS:

The new trend among hand-crafted jewelry designers is to keep their customers informed by writing a BLOG. A blog is a mini website which allows individuals, families or businesses to post photos and articles. Blogs are extremely popular.

One of my goals for January is to start a blog. This newsletter format does not allow me to include photos and I use it sparingly to avoid "spamming" anyone. An on-line blog will allow my customers to check in at their leisure and see what is new without having to browse my entire website. I will also continue this newsletter.

JEWELRY BUYING TIPS:

Tomorrow is "Cyber Monday." This is the first year I've heard that term, but many people begin on-line shopping for Christmas on the Monday after Thanksgiving. For Cyber Monday I want to remind everyone that I have a 60 day money back guarantee. Most of my fellow jewelry artists have a 3-7 day guarantee. My policies allow you plenty of time to order, receive and give gifts and to make sure your recipient enjoys the item before deciding on whether you need a return or exchange.

Lately I have been doing quite a bit of professional re-stringing of pearls. I thought it was time for an informative article on the method I use, prices and other information about beaded jewelry repair and resizing. Here is the link to my article page:

You may also use the link above to view my articles on pearl care, custom orders and green cleaning recipes. All of my articles have been revised this month and now include photos.

I'll write again after the first of the year. In the meantime, please have a safe and Happy Christmas and New Year.

God Bless,

Sue Runyon
