Sue Runyon Designs Newsletter August 2008
Hi Everyone,
I'm back from summer vacation. I have enjoyed the opportunity to talk face to face with some of you during that time and to learn a little more about what jewelry items you prefer. Your imput is invaluable to me.
I would especially like to thank all those who posed for me. Your beautiful faces on my web pages really help my customers see what the pieces look like on someone. The whole site is re-styled with a fresher, more natural look.
I've had so many inquiries about a blue sodalite necklace set that is on my gallery page. It is very simple with large "lentil" shaped beads. Unfortunately, I cannot find any more of those. Sorry, I'm looking! Sodalite is a natural, bright blue gemstone from Brazil that is streaked with white calcite. It's the one affordable, bright blue gemstone and is just perfect to wear with denim. I have several other sodalite pieces on the site and have more sodalite beads in inventory. I did get in some very nice lentil shaped African turquoise beads--look for a necklace from those coming soon.
I've also had lots of requests for single white teardrop pearl pendants and earrings. I have a set I wear quite often everyone seems to want it. Pearl prices have doubled in the last few months due to the fact that China is hosting the Olympics and China supplies most of the world's pearls. I'm hoping prices will drop back down a little before I place a wholesale order from my supplier in China. I do hope to have those and simple pearl stud earrings well before Christmas.
WHAT'S NEW
There is a big turn over of items this month. Sales have been good and I'm hustling to get new items posted. There are lots of new bracelets--especially the memory wire ones you all seem to really love. There are also several new triple drop "cascade" style earrings.
My big best seller lately has been the interchangeable gemstone donut necklaces. I'm introducing a new donut assortment of three manmade materials: an opalescent glass donut that is so wonderful worn against jewel toned fabrics, a goldstone donut that is perfect to wear for outdoor events as it glitters in sunlight and a rainbow Hemalyke(TM) donut with an irridescent coating that gleams like a dragonfly. This assortment will really round out your donut collection. For those of you who haven't seen the donuts in person, they are large--about the size of a silver dollar--and really show off the attributes of the different gemstones and materials from which they are made.
You asked, so I'm also introducing interchangeable earrings that match the donut necklaces. I've designed very simple gemstone bead dangles that slip on and off sterling silver hoop earrings. Wear them with one dangle or cluster several onto the hoop. I've made it easy for you, each dangle assortment matches a donut assortment. I'm also providing a complimentary leverback ear wire set with each silver hoop set so you can have a completely different look. Just follow this link:

JEWELRY TRENDS
It's back-to-school shopping time and also time to take note of the Fall/Winter 2008/2009 color forecast. It's not what you would expect. You won't find the autumn russets, brick reds, hunter greens and warm browns of past years. What you will find are deep, saturated jewel tones. Think bright jade or emerald, every color of topaz from deep amber to bright pink to sky blue, sapphire and ruby. The neutrals for the season are a taupey grey, buttery cream and rich dark chocolate.
The hottest trend in jewelry seems to be the circle necklace: a circle of any type of material that is attached to the chain from both sides instead of being suspended from the top. I bet you've been noticing them too. I have a pearl and jade circle necklace on my website now, some on my gallery page and more to come. An alternative to that is a horseshoe shaped version.
JEWELRY BUYING TIP
Those of you who live in humid climates know this especially--it's hard to keep silver from tarnishing. It helps a great deal to store all of your silver items in plastic zip bags. I provide one with each item I sell. Also, whenever you purchase shoes or electronics you will usually find a small packet of silica desicant in the box. Keep it! Just place several in the drawers of your jewelry box or even inside your zip bags and replace them as you get more. If you happen to receive a silver item from me and it has a small slip of white paper inside the zip bag, keep that too. It's an anti-tarnish strip.
Feel free to forward this newsletter on to friends who might like it.
Enjoy the rest of your summer.
