Sue Runyon Designs Newsletter June 2008
Kids are getting out of school and summer is here. This is the time of year for fun jewelry. Summer is also a great time to bring natural elements into your accessory wardrobe.
For all you rock hounds, I've introduced a line of graduated gemstone bead necklace sets. This design is a particular favorite of mine since the large, 10-12mm beads at the front really show off the qualities of the gemstones while the graceful graduation of the beads to only 4mm at the back keeps the piece from being too heavy. These sets are priced right at only $32 each and look good on everyone. There are currently eight types of stones to choose from and you will find them near the bottom of the new NECKLACES GEM webpage as you scroll.
The simple sterling silver donut bail and chains that I introduced last month have proven to be very popular! You can change out the natural gemstone donut focal beads to go with any outfit. These are especially great for summer. I took a set on my Memorial Day vacation and it was perfect to go with every casual outfit I wore. The eye catching designs has certainly gotten a lot of attention when I've worn it around town. This month I've introduced a new gemstone donut assortment with translucent soft pink quartz, speckled rose colored rhodonite and frosted finish dark brown agate. This is a great assortment for those of us with cool skin tones. There are now four assortments to chose from and I'm working on a very special fifth assortment.
Pearls are soft and light and great for summer wear, but be careful with them. Perfumes, hair care products and sunblocks can damage the luster of pearls (and do it very quickly). Always allow personal care products to dry completely before putting on your pearls. Sweat and body oil build-up can dull the luster of pearls so you should give them a buff with a very soft cloth before putting them away after you wear them--epecially in summer. If you'd like to know more about pearl care visit my PEARL CARE GUIDE. You can find the link at the bottom of any page on my website.
Take a look at my new pearl designs for summer. I now have some coin pearl necklace sets.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
I'm already planning ahead for Christmas! Later this year I will introduce a GIFT ITEMS page to my website. This is where you will be able to find my special designs for elegant ornaments, stemware charms, bookmarks, cell-phone lanyards, hair sticks and other non-jewelry items. By the time you start to need small items for teacher gifts, stocking stuffers, ornament exchanges and hostess gifts I'll be ready. I'm planning lots of items priced from $2-10 for your gift giving needs.
JEWELRY BUYING TIP
What is gold-filled? The term gold-filled is confusing. Gold filled jewelry components are not filled with gold. Gold filled is an actual layer of gold which is pressure bonded to another metal--usually copper or brass. Gold "plated" jewelry has a thin layer of gold applied to another metal. Plating can wear off or discolor over time. Gold filled pieces, on the other hand, have a thick layer of gold on the surface and are very stable and do not wear off. Those who are sensitive to plated jewelry can wear gold-filled pieces just as easily as they can wear solid gold and it's so much more affordable.
