I have officially been in business a month now. Thanks for the support! I want to show my appreciation with a special discount for my newsletter readers. On February 6-8, 2008 you can enter the discount code "HEART" during checkout to receive 10% off your order and have your items in time for Valentines Day! Discounts will not appear on the website except in this newsletter so be sure to tell all your jewelry loving friends to subscribe. I've been adding new items every few days. Keep checking back to see the latest. WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO: I will have special discounts and/or items available for Mother's Day, Graduation and for end of the school year teacher gifts. For all you fans of keishi pearls I just received a shipment with many different colors. I have a couple pieces up on the website and many more to come. Keishi pearls are made when flakes of shell fall into the mussel freshwater pearls are cultured inside. The mussel then covers the shell with nacre forming the lustrous, smooth, light "petals." They are unique pearls in that they go with everything from a simple solid t-shirt to an evening gown. This makes them the perfect set of pearls to pack for vacations! JEWELRY TRENDS: I have delved into the weird world of internet fashion forecasting and come up with a few of the current and projected jewelry trends for early 2008. The biggest trend of note is that jewelry IS THE TREND. Extremely popular TV style shows like TLC's "What Not To Wear" are educating women in the art of accessorizing and finding their own personal style. Take at look at the 2008 campaign trail for example. You won't see Hillary Clinton without a great necklace to call attention to her face (and away from her hips). People are tuning into "Good Morning America" daily to see what jewelry anchor woman Robin Roberts is wearing. I confess to watching the FOX show "Bones" just to see the jewelry. At the same time women are learning to take clothing items to the tailor for the perfect fit, they are learning to customize their jewelry choices for the perfect look. "Quality instead of quantity" is the catch phrase. Jewelry artisans and boutique stores are gaining a bigger chunk of the market from shopping mall jewelry stores and mass merchandisers because women no longer want to wear what everyone else is wearing. The high price of gold is driving the trend toward silver. This is good news for all those of us who have the cool undertones of pinks and blues in their skin. For those of you with peach, olive and coppery undertones, look for antiqued brass or copper finishes on clasps and beads for an affordable and flattering look. JEWELRY BUYING TIPS: The weakest part of a bead necklace or bracelet is usually the connection to the clasp. This is where the items will be stressed from fastening, pulling and mostly from the stringing material rubbing against the metal of the clasp. When buying a piece in person, inspect this area well. In my designs I usually use French wire (tiny coil of wire the stringing material goes through) to cover the silk or bead cord to protect it from wear at the clasp. If the stringing material is tough enough (heavy nylon or metal cord for instance) this is not necessary. Other designers use bead tips or crimps or other fastening techniques. Most connections have a "jump ring" somewhere that is just a small ring of metal. With rough treatment these can pull apart so always use care when fastening and unfastening. Don't be afraid to ask your favorite jewelry artist for a custom order. Many are happy to work with you and often small changes can be done at no extra cost. Many will even do repairs free of charge should your toddler pull too hard on your necklace or . . . If you signed up for the newsletter, but did not get it by e-mail, you probably didn't confirm. Please sign up again and respond to the e-mail you will be sent from "listserver@suerunyondesigns." You must confirm to complete the process. Don't worry, I won't "spam" you with frequent e-mails and I won't share your e-mail address with anyone! You can unsubscribe at any time. Thanks for all the support!
